How a Murphy Bed Can Let You Use Your Home Office as a Guest Bedroom

These days, more individuals than ever before are working from home. Before we knew it, everyone was using video conference software to stay connected. Prior to the pandemic, approximately 17% of employees in the United States worked from home at least 5 days per week. This percentage increased to 44% during 2020, according to Statista.

Unfortunately, sometimes WFH setups take up valuable space in the home that can keep people from hosting loved ones who are visiting. Don’t send friends or relatives to a nearby hotel when you can easily accommodate them in your existing space. Installing a Murphy bed (also known as a wall bed) in your home office lets you transform it into a guest bedroom. When it’s time for your guests to leave, the bed folds back into the wall and you can resume office work in the space. More Space Place Jacksonville has tons of options and experts to help you pick or design the right Murphy Bed for you!

About Murphy Beds

If you’ve never slept in a Murphy bed before, you should know that it’s a fairly recent invention. A man named William Murphy was staying in a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco, California at the end of the 19th century. He was courting an opera singer, but tradition kept him from inviting her to his bedroom.

So, Murphy created a hideaway bed that he stored in the closet when not in use. Transforming his living space enabled Murphy to invite the young woman to what now he referred to as a parlor suitable for a visit, according to Smithsonian Magazine. Once he proved it worked, Murphy gave the invention his name and received a patent for the bed in 1911.

Today, Murphy beds are an ideal way to free up space in your abode. This means if your work-from-home setup in your office meant giving up a guest bedroom, you can now invite people to stay overnight.

The Murphy bed will fold up during the day to disappear into its cabinet so you can work at your desk. At night when work is done, the Murphy bed comes down so your guests can use the office space as a bedroom.
