We’ve written in the past about how to de-clutter and reorganize your closets. And this is a great thing to do, especially after you get a beautiful, new custom closet. But perhaps you’re wondering what to do with those unwanted clothing items. Read on for a few suggestions from the team at More Space Place Jacksonville about how to sell or donate your apparel.
How To Sell Your Clothes
When it comes to selling your clothes, the Internet has opened up a wide range of options—from online consignment shops to fashion apps. Selling your clothes online can be as easy as taking a picture of your item, posting a description, and waiting to ship the item once it sells. Or if you’d prefer to get rid of your items all at once, you can mail them in bulk to an online consignment store. Some consignment sites offer to pay upfront for items, while others provide a percent commission after your piece is sold.
If selling online is not your favorite idea, check out local consignment shops. This is another great way to get rid of your items in a bulk transaction. Local consignment shops typically review your gently used items, present an offer, and then pay upfront.
Of course, donating is always an option for unwanted clothing. This is one of the easiest ways to clear out clutter, and it also goes to a good cause. Donating doesn’t have to be a loss of money either, since donations can be logged as tax deductions. For more information about clothing donations check out our post about the dos and don’ts of donating.
Think Outside The Box
Besides selling or donating your items, there are other creative options for getting rid of your unwanted apparel. Organize a clothing swap with friends. Perhaps you are bored of a particular piece, but your friend has always admired it. (This can also be a fun way to acquire different clothing and change up your wardrobe.)
Alternatively, turn your old clothes into rags or a fun DIY craft project. Or, if your items are particularly worn, you can always take them to the dump. Read up on your local trash collection policies for the proper way to handle clothing.
